boy fishing on rock in river - taken by Paulina Eaborn

Welcome to the Goondiwindi Region. We’ve got one big backyard for you to explore - 19,300 km2 (or 1.2 times as big as Brisbane!) to be precise.

The region is rich in history, home to a thriving country culture and renowned for its agricultural excellence. It’s why we’re known as Regional Australia at its Best.

History and heritage are steeped across the region, from the legend of the great ‘Goondiwindi Grey’ Gunsynd to the legacy of early Australian exploration, pioneering and agriculture.

The colours of the country are our muse and our infrastructure our canvas, with a growing street art scene, larger-than-life-sculptures and one of the biggest silo artworks in Australia found in Yelarbon.

While our population might ordinarily be 10,450 people, it only takes an event for it to feel much bigger than that. Our events calendar is jam-packed with country races, gourmet food festivals and the toughest triathlon in Queensland to name a few.

While we might be inland, you’re never far from the water, with a multitude of rivers, dams and waterways criss-crossing the region - primed for inland fishing.

Strong access to water means the growing is good, and there’s plenty of opportunities to sample paddock-to-plate produce, from organic olives to award-winning dairy and free-range pork.

Be sure to stay a while. We’ve got lots for you to do.
