Talwood

Children at Talwod Rec grounds

Small in town size but big in community spirit, tree-lined and tidy, Talwood is 90 km west of Goondiwindi towards Nindigully. It services the surrounding rural industry, including an active grain transfer depot.

Base yourself in Talwood to explore the Boomi hot springs (NSW), which draw from mineral-rich artesian water from more than 1.2 km underground. For fishing enthusiasts, all you need to know about Talwood is your choice of two rivers from which to cast off – the Barwon or the Weir Rivers. Art lovers will be keen to take a day trip from Talwood to the Thallon silo artwork.

HISTORY

Talwood was first surveyed in the 1860s. After the railway connected it from Goondiwindi to Dirranbandi, Talwood became a service centre and community hub for the surrounding rural properties. Today, it remains a major depot for the huge quantities of grain harvested in the area.
