Nungwai Artwork – various sculptures
Artist: Angus Wilson
Coat of Arms - Australia Built in 2014, the ‘Coat of Arms’ is a huge, iconic sculpture that marks the entrance to Goondiwindi from the Cunningham Highway. Artist Angus Wilson is a Goondiwindi local who has a love of re-using old materials and breathing new life into them as pieces of sculpture. Look out for several of Angus’s distinctive works across the region.
Once Upon a Time Beside the ‘Coat of Arms’ you’ll find ‘Once Upon a Time’, a 2019 sculpture that further celebrates the artistic transformation of old objects. The surrounding birds are Australia’s infamous white Ibises; the words ‘Once Upon a Time’ were crafted in collaboration with local school students, who painted each letter prior to their installation.
Five concrete heads, weighing twenty tonnes, called Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Lot's Wife are placed along the fence line and lit up at night.
Angus's latest work features a larger-than-life kitchen table with flowers in a vase and a coffee mug. Underneath is a life-sized version. The sculpture is titled 'Smoko in the Meadow'.
