When you’re the sort of traveller who asks, “what will I eat” before “what will I do” or “where will I sleep”, don’t worry, Goondiwindi Region will sate your cravings.

Our cafés, bakeries, restaurants, pubs and takeaways have options to satisfy your culinary needs.

Read on to find out where to eat in Goondiwindi.

Looking for good coffee?

If you love your coffee as much as we do, head to one of our many cafés serving barista-made coffees as well as fresh juices, sandwiches and wraps, hot meal options, and daily specials. Local favourites include Merlo coffee from The Larder, Kitsch’s gourmet sandwiches and the selection of house-made cakes from Laurenz Cafe.

Breakfast of champions

For a cooked breakfast six days a week, head to Gather 4390 – or for a quick grab and go, Kitsch or The Larder (all in Marshall Street) are for you. The locals love The Larder’s rustic rolls, which have been on the menu for over a decade – and they dare not take them off.

After baked goods?

You will find both bakeries at either end of Marshall Street. Gunsynd Bakery’s fresh bread is the softest going around, and at Batesy’s Bread Basket you can’t go past a traditional pie or one of their pina colada or TimTam stuffed croissants!

A counter meal and a coldie

Our local pubs offer classic favourites like steak and chicken schnitzels, along with salads and hearty veg, and of course a cold beverage. Enjoy the beer gardens at the locally-owned and operated Royal or Queensland Hotels, or the recently renovated interior, complete with fireplace, and kids’ play area at The Vic – as it’s known to the locals.

Sit down at a restaurant

Our restaurants feature an international selection from Modern Australian cuisine at Gather 4390, Cascades Restaurant and all-you-can-eat buffet at Outback Kusina, to Chinese, Malaysian, Indian and Thai cuisines. Most offer eat-in dining and takeaway. Our suggestions? Try the Massaman Curry at Lucky Thai or the Chicken with Almonds at New Dynasty Chinese Restaurant.

No time? Let’s grab and go

If you need a fuss-free takeaway visit local institution, Sonno’s, for traditional Fish and Chips or a burger with the lot. You can also enjoy a pizza from Porky’s Pizza or choose from Subway, KFC, McDonald’s and Red Rooster.

You can also grab a pre-prepared meal from The Larder Market and Foodworks, or for self-catering head to the supermarket and local butcher, Gibson’s Butchery.

If the kids are with you, most venues offer kids’ meals as well as vegetarian and gluten-free options – be sure to check with the staff before ordering.

Make a weekend out of eating

If you happen to be in town during September join us for ‘Gourmet in Gundy’ – a celebration of good food and wine, showcasing the diversity and quality of produce from our region and afar.

Keen to sample local produce?

The Goondiwindi Region knows how to do paddock to plate – from award-winning wagyu to organic chicken and dairy farms, organic olives and free-grazing lamb. To find it, your best bet is to head to the locally owned Foodworks in Goondiwindi or Inglewood, Gibsons Butcher in Goondiwindi or the local butcher in Texas to try them for yourself. The Visitor Information Centre in Goondiwindi also stocks local olives and honey as an edible souvenir – the best kind if you ask us!
