Pub Crawl Your Way Through Goondiwindi Region
Published on 29 August 2025
Australian country pubs are known throughout the world for their genuine hospitality, sometimes intriguing decor and of course a friendly local larrikin or two.
So, if you are wanting a true country experience, this self-guided pub crawl provides plenty of opportunity for great conversation over delicious food, the odd tipple and maybe, if you plan ahead, a Yabbie or Pig Race Day too (yep you read that right!). Just make sure you have a designated driver or even better, book a night somewhere local to get the full country hospitality experience.
Let's begin our ultimate pub crawl out west, at the Nindigully Pub!
Nindigully Pub
While just outside our region, we couldn’t help but sneak in this iconic country watering hole. The Nindigully Pub is a historical pub beside the Moonie River 44km from St George. The original building has changed little since it was first built in the 1864 as the Cobb & Co Coach changeover station. Nindigully is visited by many tourists for its historical value and famous ‘Road Train’ burger, but many stay awhile for the fishing and camping on the river.
Next stop, the Talwood Hotel!
Talwood Hotel
Head east on the Barwon Highway toward the tiny town of Talwood. Nestled in the charming Main Street, you’ll find the epitome of country hospitality taking the form of the Talwood Hotel. Taste test Aussie pub classics on the menu, treat yourself to an ice-cold brew and jump in for a game of pool with the local crowd.
Two beers at Toobeah?
Toobeah Hotel
A real bush pub experience, with great food, cold drinks and coffees served all day. Bringing the family? There’s a great outdoor area complete with a playground too!
Welcome to Goondiwindi!
O'Shea's Royal Hotel
O’Shea’s Royal Hotel & Motel offers everything from great food to country pub scenes, live entertainment and Goondiwindi’s largest Gaming Room with 35 machines. The steak, chips and salad served up here is a local favourite!
The Victoria Hotel
The iconic architecture of the Victoria Hotel makes it a standout in the heart of Goondiwindi’s Main Street. Cosy up by the fire in the main dining room in winter over a warming shiraz and a plate of slow braised lamb shank.
The Queensland Hotel
The Queensland Hotel, known as The QL by locals, has been a valued part of the community since the late 1800s, standing strong through fires and floods. Relax in the beer garden next to their converted caravan 'Backyard Bar' under intimate festoon lighting or join the fun on Friday and Saturday nights with resident DJs and live music throughout the year. The hotel also provides gaming entertainment, including pokies, Keno, weekly raffles, TAB, and jackpots in the Public Bar.
The Railway Hotel
Enjoy great food and quality hospitality at the Bistro, open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Kick back after a day of touring with a well-deserved drink from the public bar. It may sound contentious, but their Mad Cow burger is a must try on any good country pub crawl…
But wait, there is still more to experience in the region!
Oasis Hotel, Yelarbon
Just half an hour drive East from Goondiwindi is Yelarbon - the tiny town with the big painted silos! Enjoy a takeaway or dine-in pub feed from the kitchen, knock back a cold beer in the expansive beer garden and get to know our locals in the public bar. Planning ahead? You might even be able to be in town for the bi-annual Yelarbon Pig Races – a local fundraiser and fantastic day out.
Codfish Hotel, Yetman
Another just on the outskirts of Goondiwindi Region, but plenty of fun particularly around cricket season! Jag your visit to line up with the annual Yetman Cricket Club’s Ladies Day that includes an iconic Yabbie Race too.
Inglewood Hotel, Inglewood
Find your way back to the Cunningham Highway (spotting an emu or two along the way!) and steer your wheel towards Inglewood to enjoy the comfy accommodation, great pub grub and a coldie in this recently renovated watering hole – what more could you ask for?
The Stockman Hotel, Texas
You won’t miss the sunny yellow brick exterior of the Stockman Hotel in Main Street Texas! Step inside to enjoy a freshly renovated interior, complete with art, a pool table and jukebox. Savour a classic pub feed or takeaway meal from the kitchen and indulge in a cool beer, wine or spirit from the bar. Its central location in Texas makes it an ideal base to explore the region, before returning again and perhaps staying the night in their on-site accommodation too.
